With the amount of device platforms available and consumer behavior always changing, online marketing has become an ever-changing segment of marketing. For the most part, most companies now focus on inbound marketing, the process of getting users to your website. So here are five trends in online marketing:

  1. Content Marketing

Blogs, social media and videos, along with other inbound marketing methods, can drive users to your website, which will ultimately lead to more sales and leads. Also, content marketing can help you build credibility, relationships and influence among your customer base. The caveat is you must be creating content that users will find useful and interesting to read. Having dull content will not drive users to your website. Research your target audience and find out what they like, and apply that to your strategy. Also, you might consider hiring a professional agency to help you. Marketing is hard and time consuming, and they are, after all, professionals in the industry.

  1. Visual Marketing Is Needed

Using images is one of the best ways to capture attention and get a point across. Placing images in proper places on social media and blogs can really entice a viewer to click on the link. Infographics are also great tools to explain something in a fun and visually appealing way. If your market consists mainly of women and a younger demographic, visual marketing will be all the more important because those demographics tend to like visual objects more.

  1. Don’t Be Too Flashy or Loud

 Many advertisements have been very loud, flashy, busy, and complicated. This does nothing but overwhelm the consumer. Keep things simple and easy to understand. You have to remember that people see a lot of ads per day. Differentiate yourself by not being the one that makes their eyes or ears hurt. Also, be sure to get your message across in a short and concise manner.

  1. Mobile Compatibility

 This one is huge. With the increase in the use of smartphones and tablets, being compatible on mobile platforms is a necessity. If users have trouble opening emails, webpages, or content, you are going to have a big issue. A large portion of people now open emails from a mobile device. Even more people manage their social media through a mobile device. Be sure your webpage and content are compatible and have good load times.


  1. Paid Social Advertising

Social media advertisements that appear on people’s newsfeed on both Twitter and Facebook have been very successful with generating high click through rates. These posts usually feature and image and a short message enticing the viewer to click. When compared to display ads, Adroll has reported that Facebook newsfeed ads have a click-through rate that is 21 times higher than a standard web ad. This is largely due to the fact that the ad is placed where people are constantly looking and not off to the side.

These are some of the trends affecting online marketing. If you can do your best to implement each one of these into your marketing plan, you will be well off. Online marketing will always be evolving, and you need to evolve with it or be left behind.
