To qualify to be a partner at Fluid, you have to be pretty amazing. Everything about Kaylan Hazlett, like her impressive answers to our (clearly) thought-provoking questions, has blown us away. We’re excited to have her join us, and we hope you enjoy her thoughts below as much as we do having her around the agency.
What brings you to Fluid?
Smart people doing smart things.
What did you do before Fluid?
I slung reports at Saxton Horne, the ad agency that was part of the Larry H. Miller group of companies.
What’s your kryptonite?
Fear of failure. I’m analytical and over analyze everything. It’s a black and white world in my mind and that means something is a success or a failure. Also, pastries.
If you were a YouTube star, what would you be famous for?
My goats. I’m pretty convinced that some people are friends with me in order to get access to play with my pet goats.
What do you love most about digital marketing?
The ability to measure it. It’s also what I hate most about it because it’s held to a different standard and clients don’t have as much patience as they should due to the plethora of data and transparency.
What do you do outside of work?
Most of my hobbies are on hiatus right now and have been replaced with raising two tiny humans, but they include knitting and competing in the occasional amateur triathlon. I am also pretty good at sitting next to water and soaking up sunshine.
What are your plans for the future of Fluid?
World domination. Only sort of joking. There is a lot of potential here.
What’s your favorite season? What’s your favorite seasoning?
Fall even though when I say that people assume it means I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes and I don’t. You CAN love Fall without loving PSL (I hear the kids these days just use the acronym for it).
My favorite seasoning is cinnamon because sweets beat savory any day in my world. And, yes, I know PSL has cinnamon in it.
If you could live in any time period, which would you choose?
My mom always says that I should have grown up in the ’50’s. I love everything about ’50’s design especially the colors and patterns. The ’60’s and ’70’s were pretty great, too. Instead, I witnessed my older sisters grow up in the ’80’s and inhaled a lot of second-hand hair spray.
What’s your secret mutant power that we wouldn’t find out about until the last 30 minutes of the movie?
My husband swears I don’t have appropriate nerve endings and can touch things that are too hot for normal people.
And finally, is a calzone a sandwich? Defend your answer.
Yes, if you can pick it up and eat it with your hands.
What are some other facts about you?
- I LOVE coffee and get sad when my coffee cup is empty.
- I talk with my hands all the time which makes me just seem weird on virtual meetings.
- My life feels less complete when I don’t have a whiteboard to think through things visually.
- I grew up in Colorado.
- I never planned to work in marketing.
- I got married on Pi Day 3/14/15 because my husband and I are both math nerds
We’re excited for the days, weeks, months and years ahead that we have with Kaylan. We’re particularly thrilled to witness the world domination.
