LinkedIn: 300 Million Strong

20 May, 2014 McKell Naegle

LinkedIn recently announced that it has the surpassed the 300 million member mark. This is a huge accomplishment, mainly due to the fact that they are not a traditional social media platform. LinkedIn focuses on the professional community, serving as a means to network, learn about specific industries, and prospect and apply for jobs. Although LinkedIn was originally made as a professional network site and still mainly serves as that, it can really help a business grow. With over 300 million users, the opportunity for business growth is off the charts and must be taken advantage of.

LinkedIn allows a business to target potential clients and customers in a much more efficient way. A business can search and find all the users who are in its category and choose who they want to target from that list. By targeting and promoting via LinkedIn, the whole process will be made more efficient, cheaper, and less time consuming.

LinkedIn also allows users to connect with colleagues both present and former as well as other businesses in the same industry. This allows users to stay up to date with current industry trends, innovations, and events. Connecting with other businesses and colleagues can help with situational consulting as well. If a business is having issues, chances are good that another business has encountered the same problems. Connecting with other businesses and colleagues allows users to offer insights and advice to their connections. This is a valuable tool for all businesses and personal users on LinkedIn, especially new businesses, businesses entering a new industry, or businesses that can afford to hire a consulting firm. Connecting also increases a businesses’ customer base and allows a business to directly market to more people.

In addition to growing a business’s customer, marketing, and consulting base, LinkedIn also allows the business to increase its talent. There is a wealth of talented people on LinkedIn, and many are recent college graduates. With over 300 million users, LinkedIn is without a doubt the best place for the highly experienced and knowledgeable to recruit the brightest young talent.

LinkedIn is a great place to grow a business, from both a sales and talent standpoint. It can also help grow business and industry knowledge through connections and industry insight. With its recent announcement of topping the 300 million-member mark, there are almost endless possibilities for potential clients, talent, and advice. Linked in is also poised for more growth—it is LinkedIn’s goal to connect all 3.3 billion members of the global workforce. So, if you have not jumped on the LinkedIn bandwagon yet, now is the time to do so.
