How To Know This Job’s The One

24 Feb, 2016 McKell Naegle

February is all about love and making a match. However, today we’re not talking about the traditional Valentine’s match. We’re talking about finding the right company for you. Just as every company tries to find excellent employees to hire, you have to find the right company and job for you. Taking the time to research and decide what you want to do can make a big difference. So, how can you know this job’s the one?

What Do You Enjoy Doing?

One of the most important things to do is to find a job that you will enjoy doing. If you absolutely hate what you do at work everyday, it might be time to look for a new job. Think of everything that you enjoy, including hobbies and past jobs. What do you enjoy spending a lot of time doing?

What are you qualified for?

While you may enjoy doing a lot of different things, you need to find an area where your talents and interests align. I would love to be an astronaut, but I’m in no way qualified. Think of your skills and work experience. How do those align with your interests, or how can they align with your interests? Think out of the box, and you may be surprised with some of the opportunities available.

What type of company do you want to work for?

It’s important to get a feel for the kind of company you work for. What is their company culture like? Will you enjoy working there, and will you get along with your coworkers? Do some research, visit their social media, check out their website design, and talk to some employees while you’re there interviewing. You can even ask the job interviewer about the company culture. Does it align with your personal beliefs and work ethic?

What are your goals and ambitions?

A good job and company should be one that helps you learn and grow. Is there room to learn and grow in your job? Take a look at your long-term goals and dreams. How will this job or company help you reach them?

These are just a few questions to ask yourself when looking for a job or even when evaluating your current job. How can you find or make sure your job is the perfect match?
