How to design for UX

14 Jul, 2015 Dylan Kettering

Designing an effective user experience is a vital thing for any website, and many companies and employers are beginning to recognize that. We’ve created a list of the things you need to do to get started in the world of UX.

  1. Learn everything you can

The best place to start for this will probably be in online schools. You can find plenty of cheap or free courses on online university sites like Udemy, Lynda, and Tuts+. These will all help you understand what goes into UX design. Another good resource would be books. One good one is Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug, an expert in the field of UX. Another option is Smashing UX Design: Foundations for Designing Online User Experiences. This book is the ultimate guide to UX design and would be very useful to anyone looking to learn more.

  1. Get the tools you need

Having the proper tools is vital when getting into UX. The first thing you would need is wireframing software like Balsamiq Mockups or Axure. Wireframing is a very important part of any web design process, and a professional site like this will help streamline your process. You’ll also need screen capture software like Silverback or Camtasia so

  1. Get some experience

The final step is getting the experience. The best way to learn how to design an effective UX is to find as much work as you can. Some ways you can do that are by working with a business that you know or doing some work for a non-profit organization. If you aren’t familiar with any options like that, consider creating a hypothetical site and working through the process as though it were for a real customer. In the end, the cliché holds true that practice makes perfect.
