Content Marketing Strategy

27 May, 2014 McKell Naegle

Content marketing is often viewed as the easiest and least time consuming process of marketing, but that is far from the truth. Content marketing consists of blogs, social media posts, videos, pictures and so on. While those may seem like simple tasks, creating the content on a consistent basis is where is gets hard. Each piece must grab your audience’s attention and maintain a high level of quality.

When first starting out, focus on quantity rather than quality. When a content marketing campaign first starts, quality is usually the biggest worry. This causes many businesses to not publish much content. So, try to push out at least one piece of content per day. Keeping a consistent stream of content will help create brand awareness and engage consumers. Also, keeping the content relevant and significant to customers will also help. Keeping a constant flow of content is a good way to start a content marketing campaign, and as businesses become more comfortable, more content can be pushed with more of a quality focus.

Since content marketing can be so time consuming and difficult, it’s a good idea to hire an agency that specializes in it. A report by content marketing company Kapost states that only 32% of marketing professionals are producing enough content. Therefore, outsourcing can be a good thing to do. However, do research and make sure that agencies with good and proven track records are hired. Sometimes businesses try to find the cheapest option. While money is being saved, quality is often lacking and so will results.

Research your company, audience, and competitors. This will help define the strengths of the company and give useful information about consumers. Pick out the most successful posts and figure out why they were so successful. Then translate it to future posts. Also, take a look at competitors’ sites and posts to see how they engage consumers and what successful practices they use. Another good thing to do is to continuously audit yourself and your campaign to see what is working and what can be improved.

Try to partner with influential people within your industry; this will bring credibility to your company and you will receive expert advice. Allow them to do posts for your company. This will cost money but the content you will receive will be worth it. Additionally, getting a second opinion and more ideas are great things.

With all of the posts and content that you are creating, reaching consumers is key. One of the best ways to do that is with social media. However, make sure you are posting to social media effectively and with purpose. Make sure you don’t just post articles and deals, but also engage the users with conversations and contests. Also, take advantage of all social media platforms; each can do a unique thing for your business. More information on social media marketing can be found within these small business marketing tips.

So, create quality content on a consistent basis. It will keep customers engaged and grow your brand. Also, don’t be afraid to hire experts to help you. Their opinions can only help. Keep up with research on your company, customers, and competitors. Knowing that information will help you better reach your audience and create higher quality and more relevant content. Finally, use social media to your advantage—it is a great way to engage and grow your customer base. Content marketing is a great way for a business to reach its customers, and these tips will hopefully help you have a successful content campaign.
