Quick Snapshot of AdWords Healthcare/Medicines Policies

Here at Fluid, we are dedicated to making the work of, “what is allowed and what isn’t” with Google AdWords a bit easier. This time we wanna tackle theregulations for healthcare and medicine, so we expect that ads and destinations follow appropriate laws and industry standards. Some healthcare-related content can’t be advertised at all, while others can only be advertised if the advertiser is certified with Google and targets only approved countries. Check local regulations for the areas you want to target.

Below are some examples of healthcare content that we allow in certain circumstances. Some content is only available in specific regions, so be sure to check the list of country-specific restrictions for every country where you plan to advertise.

One other product that’s not listed on the table (and for simplicity reasons) is online pharmacies. Google allows online pharmacies if they’re accredited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)

What happens if you violate AdWords’ policy?

1st Warning: Ad or Extension disapproval

2nd Warning: Site Suspension

3rd Warning: Account Suspension

  • This means that not only will that ad account be suspended due to violation of policy but all ads in your account will be paused. Meaning if you have an MCC with clients unrelated to healthcare and medicines, they too will be suspended due to the re-occurring violation.

Whenever you’re not sure if you’re campaign is in violation of Google’s policies consider this; Google looks at several factors such as the content of your ads and site or app, as well as the products or services that you offer.
