Tech Trends For 2016

2015 was a great year for the tech industry. With product releases from Apple, Google, and other tech giants, the industry looks to be on a huge upswing. 2016 looks poised to be another year of growth. Here are five different areas of tech products, where they’re at currently, and where they can improve in 2016.

  1. Fitness

The fitness industry is an era of unprecedented growth, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing any time soon. Technology and fitness have become connected. Fitness trackers, smart watches, workout apps, and many products have been released. The demand has never been higher.

What will 2016 bring?

The space between fitness trackers, smart watches, and workout apps is getting smaller and smaller. Look for new technology to combine these three into an all-in-one piece of wearable technology. The Apple Watch began to accomplish this, but it is still missing many common features such as GPS, wi-fi, and more.

  1. Smart Watches

Just because fitness trackers and smart watches are on a convergent path, it doesn’t mean that every smart watch is designed around fitness. There are many out there that try to be more of a fashion statement (though the Apple Watch tries to do both). More and more smart watches are being released.

What will 2016 bring?

The biggest problems people have about a smart watch are currently size and battery life. Many smart watches last a day or two, and they are often much bigger than a normal watch. Pebble recently released the Pebble Time Round, and though it is very small, it sacrifices performance and doesn’t have the same features as other smart watches. The goal will be to increase battery life, maintain performance, and decrease size.

  1. Streaming Services

The world of traditional media and broadcast companies has been turned on its head. Companies like Netflix and Amazon are revolutionizing the industry. Today, many people are cord cutting, relying only on the various online streaming services.

What will 2016 bring?

The big trend is original content produced by online services. Netflix is leading the way in this regard. They’ve already been producing TV shows, and they’ve started producing more and more movies, even potential award-winning movies. As online streaming has become an alternative for cable, will it soon become a viable alternative for the movie theater experience?
