The entertaining holiday dressed in green and gold is quickly coming upon us. What are some fun ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s day in Utah?
Night with Irish Poets
On February 27, at St. Mark’s Cathedral (231 E. 100 S.), at 7:00 the event will begin by reciting the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. This St. Patrick’s Day is particularly significant, as it was the Rebellion launched one hundred years ago this year. This event is free, although they do kindly ask you to bring a can of food for St. Mark’s Food Bank.
History of Irish Traditional Music
At 7:00 in the Weber County Library (5568 Adams Avenue, Washington Terrace) Dr. Mark Stevenson will discuss the roots of Irish music, from its inception up until recent decades. This evening will be stuffed with performances displaying the best of Irish song.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Salt Lake City
To kick the festivities off, The Hibernian Society of Utah, a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote and preserve Irish history, culture and traditions within the state of Utah, has a parade on March 12 at 10:00 a.m. The parade will begin on 400 West at 200 North and runs through the Gateway Mall.
Once the parade is over, the Hibernian Society will be meeting at The Complex (536 W. 100 S.) for traditional with traditional Irish dancing, food and celebration. Siamsa, as it is known, is an event for all ages and everyone in the family.
Irish Music for St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On March 12, The Signatories 1916 will host a Dublin native and talented singer- songwriter Pat Waters at the Fort Douglas Post Theater (245 South Fort Douglas Blvd.) This fun event begins at 7:30 and costs $15 at the door.
