Kinetic-type TV spot for the Utah College of Applied Technology

Utah’s applied technology colleges have a high job placement rate, but many people don’t think of them as acceptable alternatives to four-year schools. The Utah College of Applied Technology, the governing body for Utah’s tech colleges, wanted to change that.

Some people have it backwards when it comes to education, as illustrated by this kinetic-type TV spot for the Utah College of Applied Technology.

As a creative agency that is based in Utah, We thought long and hard about how we wanted to portray the experience of going to a technical college. Eventually, we decided that education was a game people could win or lose, and going to a technical college was like taking a shortcut on a gameboard to the desired space, the dream job. We presented several graphic design solutions, and this one was chosen by the client and refined through some more hard work.


We created an animated video and a landing page with this concept in mind. The video played in theaters, online, and traditional advertising mediums like television. We also created a campaign of digital ads. Clicking on the ads would take people to the landing page, where they could view the video.
